Cognitive Care

Connection Beyond Memory

We provide the specialized presence needed to navigate memory loss with grace, respect, and dignity.

Living with Alzheimer’s or dementia requires more than just supervision; it requires a partner who speaks the language of the "whole person." We understand that cognitive changes can bring moments of anxiety and confusion, which is why we focus on creating a calm, predictable environment.

Our caregivers are trained to provide "gentle redirection" and memory engagement. We provide a foundation that allows your loved one to live with dignity in a familiar, low-stress environment.

What is Cognitive Care?

Cognitive Care is our person-centered approach to memory support. It is designed specifically for those navigating the various stages of dementia or Alzheimer’s. We actively engage them through structured routines that are designed to reduce agitation and foster a sense of accomplishment.

ACTIVITIES OF Cognitive Care

Predictable Daily Routines: Establishing a consistent rhythm for meals, rest, and activity to minimize the anxiety of the unknown.

Memory Engagement Activities: Utilizing photo albums, music, and storytelling to stimulate long-term memory and spark joyful connection.

Anxiety & Agitation Reduction: Using calming techniques and "gentle redirection" to manage the emotional shifts that often accompany memory loss.

Safe Navigation Support: Providing 100% focused oversight to prevent wandering and ensure safety within the home layout.

Communication Validation: Engaging with your loved one in their current reality, ensuring they feel heard, understood, and respected.

Sensory Engagement: Incorporating familiar scents, sounds, and textures to create a soothing and grounded environment.

Nutrition & Hydration Cueing: Providing gentle, patient encouragement during mealtimes to ensure physical health is maintained.

Environmental Simplification: Organizing the home space to reduce "visual noise" and clutter that can cause confusion or overstimulation.

Adaptive Care for Evolving Needs

At Everglow, we recognize that Alzheimer’s is a journey of constant transition. Our Plan of Care is built on the understanding that as the disease progresses, your loved one’s needs will naturally evolve. We continue to monitor these changes and should we observe a shift, together, we will evaluate the next steps and discuss changes to the existing care plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Structure provides safety for a mind experiencing memory loss. Our caregivers follow a consistent daily rhythm tailored to your loved one’s past preferences. This includes specific times for meals, creative activities, and rest. By reducing the "unknowns" in a day, we significantly lower the anxiety and "sundowning" effects often seen in the late afternoon.

We utilize a technique called Compassionate Redirection. Rather than correcting or arguing—which can cause distress—our caregivers skillfully shift the client’s focus to a pleasant activity, a cherished memory, or a soothing sensory experience. We act as "Behavioral Advocates," looking for the underlying cause of the agitation (such as hunger, pain, or overstimulation) and addressing it immediately.

Yes. We believe every individual needs a "win" in their day. Whether it’s helping with a simple household task, finishing a puzzle, or sharing a life story, we create opportunities for "Success Moments." These small achievements foster self-esteem and reduce the frustration that often comes with cognitive decline.
